Become the story if you have to, but make sure to tread lightly. In Dan Gilroy’s hit thriller Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal’s titular antihero took the first part of this advice to heart, but maybe not the latter. He went full gonzo by the end, doing whatever it took to be the first on the scene to capture all the inglorious crime that Los Angeles has to offer, even proceeding to create a similar brand of mayhem if what he sees just doesn’t cut it.
