Netflix has released the first teaser for Emilia Prez, signaling the beginning of the awards race. The movie follows a lawyer (Saldaa) tasked with assisting an escaped Mexican cartel leader (Gascn) who is undergoing sex reassignment surgery to affirm the identity they’ve always felt while also evading the law. Meanwhile, the cartel leader’s wife (Gomez) must grapple with this change. Netflix acquired Emilia Prez following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d’Or.
