As well as providing dozens of fan-service cameos featuring beloved Marvel characters, Deadpool & Wolverine also pays homage to the comics that made the movie possible. During the montage where Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) traverses timelines in search of a new Wolverine (Hugh Jackman, and, briefly, Henry Cavill), Reynolds and director Shawn Levy slipped in several nods to popular comics featuring Deadpool and Logan. Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn and a beloved writer on The Incredible Hulk series of comics, hadn’t seen Deadpool & Wolverine but was told that his comic book cover was honored in the movie, and his reaction was hilarious.
